Leonard Alan Turner 22/01/1928—12/09/2015

Len Turner passed away, in hospital, on 12th September 2015, after a short illness.
Len was the former Chief Fire and Security Officer of the James Walker Group.
Successfully concealing his correct age, Len joined the Navy at 15, he later transferred to the Fleet Air Arm.
On leaving the Navy, in 1954, he joined The Lion Works at Woking as a fireman. His potential was quickly recognised with him being promoted to Station Officer.
When he became Chief Fire and Security Officer, of the Group, he was heavily involved in the rebuilding of the Fire Station, which included a new Control Room.
He also designed a 4 man Intermediate Appliance which could negotiate the narrow factory roads.
Len was a very active member of the British Fire Services Association’s Southern District and was elected Chairman of the Association’s Governing Council during 1972-74.When the Southern District disbanded he joined the London District.
He leaves behind his wife Margaret, daughters Eileen and Evelyn, 4 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.
The BFSA was represented, at the funeral in Woking, by London founder members Dan Rayner and Frank Turner
