London District Visit To Grunheide.
The London District visit to our long term partnership fire brigade in Grunehide, Germany started on Friday morning (8th Sept) when Frank Turner, Martin Harris and Graham Howgate met at Heathrow Airport. Arriving at Tegel Airport we waere met by our hosts and taken off to our first visit, which was a trip to a brewery over 100 years old. After the tour we tasted a few of their products.
We then went to our weekend accommodation in Fangschleuse, a guesthouse on the bank of the River Locknitz. Later that evening we were entertained by Klaus-Peter Shultz and his wife Maria with a BBQ where we were joined by other friends.
The Saturday was an early start and a visit to Potsdam Fire Brigade for their open day. Leaving here we went off to a former ‘secret’ Soviet/East German nuclear control bunker.
Radio Comms vehicles located outside their secure garages.
We returned to Grunheide and made our way to the fire station for an evening of celebrations with our hosts. Frank Turner made presentations to Ozzy Oswald the new Chief of Grunheide F.B.

Our final day saw us visit Jacobsdorf Fire Brigade to celebrate their taking delivery of a brand new Rosenbauer fire engine of which they were rightly very proud. Their not too old fire engine was going to another local fire brigade to replace an older vehicle.
After a short visit to another colleague who had a preserved fire engine in his garden, we made our way back to the airport thus ending another extremely good vists as part of the partnership.
We look forward to receiving our Grunheide friends back in London in 2018/
